Craig Michael Titus, Video, Photos
Craig Michael Titus (born January 14, 1965, in Wyandotte, Michigan) is a former IFBB professional bodybuilder.
Titus is of French (mother) and Greek (father) origin and lived most of his early life in Detroit, Michigan, in a city called Riverview. He has a younger brother, Kevin, and a younger sister, Nicole. Titus played high school football but quit because he was too small. He also wrestled at 132 lbs. After graduation Titus decided to put on some muscle by weight training.
When Titus graduated from high school he was 5′6″ and 140lbs. By the age of 21, he was 5′9″ and 185lbs. Once he started seeing good results from weight training, he decided to become a bodybuilder. Craig’s first bodybuilding show was the 1988 Houston Bodybuilding Championships in which he won the Men’s Open middleweight class and the overall title.
Titus wrote a monthly column for Muscular Development from July 2003 until November 2005.
Drug & murder charges
In April of 1995 in Louisiana, Titus pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute [[Methylenedioxymethamphetamine],] or “Ecstasy.” He was sentenced to 16 months of house arrest via monitoring with an electronic anklet. In July 1997, Titus was sentenced to 21 months in prison for violating his probation by using anabolic steroids.
In December 2005, Titus and his wife Kelly Ryan entered the news after being implicated in the death of Melissa James, their personal assistant, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple were arrested in Stoughton, Massachusetts, after fleeing cross-country, and both were being held in Las Vegas. According to the FBI, there was intelligence that they might have been trying to get to Greece. As Titus is of Greek descent, he had expressed an interest in going to a country where he couldn’t be extradited. In February 2006, after being extradited to Nevada from Boston, Titus and Ryan were denied bail during a hearing. On March 29, both pleaded not guilty to the felony charge of killing their live-in assistant. The charge carries the possibility of the death penalty, although prosecutors said they have not decided whether to seek it. Anthony Gross is also charged as an accomplice in the alleged crime.
On October 4, 2006, Titus broke silence about the charges and issued the following statement:
“ I want everyone to know that Kelly and I are 100% not guilty in regard to the charges of murder and kidnapping. For those of you who personally know us, you know in your hearts that we are not capable of the horrible acts they are accusing us of. However, I am responsible for exercising some really bad judgment, and I am also responsible for surrounding myself with the wrong types of individuals.
Up until now, Kelly and I were advised to stay silent. As a result of our silence, this ordeal has spun way out of control in the media. This is a cynical world we live in, where the media so readily releases untrue versions to sensationalize terrible events. We are in fact innocent and the truth will come out resulting in us being acquitted. Kelly and I only ask that you use common sense when you examine our case and try not to judge us until we have our day in court.
”
Titus and Ryan are due in court on July 26, 2007, for a status check and to identify when the trial will begin. The number assigned is Case # 06-C-220719-C.
